Cotton Queens Community Arts Project

The University of Bolton, Blackburn College and Bolton at Home are working in partnership on a community arts project to explore the influence of creative engagement with the Mass Observation Worktown Collection on the subjective well-being of women. The project is funded through a University of Bolton doctoral award.

Through cultural and historical engagement with resources unique to Bolton and its social history, Cotton Queens enables women to create and perform a film based on women’s lives as documented in the Worktown archive and other sources detailing the experiences of women cotton operatives in Bolton and also on holiday in Blackpool during the 1920’s and 1930’s. The project concludes in March 2020.
