Dr Sarah Telfer

Associate Teaching Professor

Dr Sarah Telfer is an Associate TIRI Professor in Education at the University of Bolton and Operational Lead for Initial Teacher Education programmes. She is an experienced educational leader and teacher educator with a background in ESOL and literacy teaching and learning, teacher training, and staff development in a range of different educational contexts.

Sarah’s first degree was in drama from Bretton Hall College and she worked as a professional actress for 7 years. She later transferred these skills to teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) and has taught English abroad and in the UK. She went on to gain a Master's in TESOL (Merit) and a Doctorate in Education at the University of Bolton, where she is a university TIRI teaching award winner.

Sarah’s specialist area of academic research is the use of stories in teaching and learning. She is currently responsible for the introduction of new ITE courses; applying new administrative teaching systems; staff training; coordinating resource requirements; writing, developing and validating HE education programmes; and organisational planning for educational conferences and events. Sarah also represents the University of Bolton at national and international teacher training conferences.
