Often in academia, we are encouraged to reflect, to look at our past endeavours and to improve thereon. Nurses, in particular, are no exception. Indeed, we are professionally obliged to do so in order to safeguard future practice.
On this occasion, however, I feel that we can temporarily suspend such exercises. Let's celebrate the huge changes that have occurred for our newly recognised School of Nursing and its impact on the university as a whole. We also celebrate the recent arrival of our May 2019 Cohort as well as the commencement of our program in our brand new satellite schools of Petroc College (in Devon) and in Bradford.
Over the past ten months, the school’s staff and student numbers have almost doubled. More successful applicants have chosen the University of Bolton as the starting point for what will ultimately be a life-changing career and experience.
As a result, more experienced staff have joined us in order to meet the demand as we continue to provide high-quality teaching-intensive, research-informed learning.
These developments have occurred against the backdrop of the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s implementation of their new Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses. This has necessitated the creation of an entirely new and innovative curriculum in reply to their recommendations nationally.
Suffice to say, the efforts to meet all three of these changes in the same ten months have been phenomenal and we look forward to the successful validation of our work. Work which ultimately feeds into the plaudits and successes the school has attained thus far, becoming the best in England for student satisfaction and second in the UK overall.
To those joining us, we wish a warm welcome to the university and the wider faculty.
